Resolve to Reason
Welcome to the MOXIE blog! New year, new me - right? We all start the year with a few lofty promises to ourselves. I'm going to work out 5 days a week. I am going to only have one cup of coffee a day. I'm going to start my business blog in January. LOL. They're benchmarks of how we can become a better version of ourselves in the new year. I usually set the bar too high and face-plant by February. So this year, I resolve to be reasonable with myself. I resolve to give myself (and others) grace. I resolve to set goals, but not have a breakdown if I'm unable to achieve each one in a said timeline.
Last year was the first year I've made a resolution and kept it through December 31, 2017. Prepare yourself, it's a big one. I said NO to shellac (gel nail polish) for 365 days. (Here's where I lose all male readership.) While my nails are stronger, I wouldn't say I'm a better human or have a more profound understanding of life for not having put my hands under those UV lights for one year. So this year I resolve to you, my passionate MOXIE blog reader (AKA Mom), that I will dig a little deeper.
Β
Start this blog.
Here goes my first act of self grace-giving. This was supposed to have been started the first week of January. Well HEL-LO FEBRUARY! It is now the second day of February, but clicking the SAVE & PUBLISH button still feels pretty freaking good. I've been thirsty for a little place to share my thoughts and receive yours without clogging your social feed. I am constantly learning and growing, so I thought we might link arms and take this journey (disregard word choice - I'm watching The Bachelor) together. So here I am - a blogger. If you're lucky, I will share an #ootd one day. You're welcome in advance.
Create community.
I am an introvert. (ISTJ to be exact!) I thrive off of alone time. I have no problem seeing a movie alone, trying a new restaurant alone or even going on a mini vacay alone. I know it's weird. I do have friends. This year, I resolve to build a community within my industry. I resolve to make an extra effort to seek out mentors, partners, collaborators - you name it! Does this sound like a billboard for BE MY FRIEND? Well, it is.
Read for pleasure.
Theres' a statistic that says that CEOs read at least 60 books a year. Kudos to those CEOs but if I read 60 books this year, MOXIE would not be in business. Here comes my resolve to reason - I'll read 12. If you haven't guessed yet, I just finished Wonder so I'm 1/12. Now where's my cookie!
Write notes of encouragement.
Nothing says I love you like an emoji or a personal GIF. Nothing says I really, really love you like a handwritten note. And we could all use a little boost from time to time, right? If you engage with a comment below, you're likely to get a handwritten note. And not only because I really, really love you for reading this, but because I know you've read my resolution and, therefore, won't be weirded out.
